Project Summary
This project included both demolition of an existing fire station while building a new fire station. This Fire Station #61 was previously called Fire Station #16 and was constructed in 1979. The Fire Station was not amenable to the current operations of the Clark County Fire Department.
This project consisted of the demolition of the existing 5,746 SF Fire Station and the construction of a new 10,311 square foot fire station, with new access points, and parking configuration. The 1-acre lot received all new landscaping and hardscape work. Due to some design and parapet height issues, Rafael Construction, Inc. was able to modify an overhanging steel structure with aluminum skin in which the parapet walls were able to hide HVAC units from view without causing redesign on the overall roof structure. In addition to this being an important community project, which included neighbor outreach, the contract was to be executed Sunday through Saturday. However, at the end of the day work was able to be completed during the week as well. A detailed “network schedule” and effective and often communication with the operational and facilities staff was needed. This project was delivered on time and on budget, including added scope adjustments.
